Queen of Peace Foundation Euchre Tournament a Success
(NEW PRAGUE, MN - November 20, 2009) – On Saturday, November 14, 2009, Queen of Peace Foundation hosted its inaugural Euchre Tournament at Ridges at Sandcreek in Jordan. The goal was to raise funds for the SWITCH program, a health and wellness program for children.
"Since this was our first year for the tournament, we didn't know what to expect," said Heather Tietz, Foundation Director. "We were excited to have 120 people come out to support this great cause for kids!" Photos from the Tournament are available on the Foundation web site.
Card sharks from all over the area including New Prague, Montgomery, Shakopee, Chaska, Faribault and Jordan, came out for a day of fun. The top three finishers from each division moved on to the playoffs.
In the semi-finals, there was an exciting match between the team of Leonard Pexa and Noreen Seurer when they faced off against a pair of Shakopee's finest card players, Bruce Theis and Tom Menden. After a come back by Pexa & Seurer, they tied the game up at nine to nine. When Pexa dealt the last hand, he turned up the queen of hearts as trump. He had to be relieved to see four more hearts in his hand, which solidified their ultimate win and moved on to the championship round.
The championship match was a duel between Megan Winn and Lynn Hennen against the Pexa-Seurer team. This too was a close game with the Winn-Hennen duo coming out victorious. Both teams walked away with a variety of prizes including Underwater Adventures Aquarium tickets, Nickelodeon Universe wristbands, gift cards to local restaurants and more.
In addition to the tournament, there was a small silent auction featuring a football autographed by the Minnesota Vikings' Jared Allen and a Univerity of Minnesota Gopher basketball ticket package adding to the proceeds for the event.
